The NBA draft is one of the most exciting days of the year, and drafting poorly can haunt teams for years later (hello, Suns in 2016!). It's fun to look back and wonder what could have been, which is why NBA Re-Drafts are a common thing. They also are a good thought exercise, as any sort of thoughtful ranking system should be.
But I want to capture these re-drafts in a slightly different way. It's one thing to say "This is what the 2014 draft would look like if we re-drafted it today". But what about a year ago? Or two years ago? If we re-drafted the 2009 draft today, Steph Curry would undeniably go first, and James Harden would go second. But what about in 2011? Would Blake Griffin still have gone first? Probably. What about in 2014? That's a little harder to say.
Thinking about NBA re-drafts in this way provides three helpful factors:
1. It shows how fluid NBA re-drafts can be and how quickly they can change.
2. It informs us of the player's career trajectory.
3. It provides further knowledge of the history of the league and where it was at certain points.
So, not only will you be able to see the below drafts if they were re-drafted, but there will be multiple version of each re-draft, with an "as of" date, and will be updated periodically in the future (coming soon).
