NBA Over/Under Regular Season Wins
Atlanta Hawks - 36.5 wins
October 19, 2024
Performance vs. O/U Line Over Last 10 Years (excluding shortened '19-'20 season): 3-6
The Case for the Over

The Hawks have had successful offenses in the Trae Young era, finishing top-11 each of the last four seasons. If they continue to have a very good offense, it may be enough to push past this line, even if their defense continues to struggle. Should be a little deeper by trading one rotation player in Dejounte Murray for two in Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Jr.
They don’t own their draft pick this year, so they don’t have any reason to tank near the end of the season.
There are some pretty bad teams in their conference, and they should be in the play-in mix and have even more reason to keep playing through season.

The Case for the Under
They won just 36 games last year, and probably got worse from a talent perspective by trading away Murray. They still don’t have a lot of shooting, unless Zaccharie Risacher becomes an above-average shooter right away. They have some players that have struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons in Jalen Johnson and Bogdan Bogdanovic. With Murray gone, they are more reliant on Young and could really struggle offensively when he sits or when he misses games.
Even though they don’t own their own pick and have incentive to tank, they could still be a seller. They could trade players like Clint Capela or Nance to just get something for them before they hit free agency next summer. If they get off to a bad start, they might even considering trading Trae Young

Conclusion

This team seems to fit snugly right below the actual good teams in the conference and the clearly bad teams. Especially with having no reason to tank, they could get some easy wins near the end of the season when other teams throw in the towel. I like the over.
