NBA Over/Under Regular Season Wins

Golden State Warriors - 48.5 wins

October 22, 2023

The Case for the Over

Although they only won 44 games last season, they had a point differential of a 47-win team, so they played closer to this line than their record suggests. Steph Curry only played 56 games last season, so if he plays 60+ games, which is pretty reasonable, that could give the Warriors a couple more wins at least. Andrew Wiggins only played 37 games, and just had a really rough season after being awesome in the ’21-’22 season and the 2022 playoffs. If he gets back to that level, that could also push the Warriors win total past this number.

Having Chris Paul could really help the non-Steph minutes, which is something that the Warriors have struggled with for a while. He also could reduce their turnover rate, another issue plaguing the Warriors for years. Paul also gives them some much-needed passing when Draymond Green is on the bench.

He didn’t play that many minutes last season, but they struggled in the minutes that James Wiseman played, so not having to gift him minutes should cause some improvement.

The Case for the Under

Between Jordan Poole and Donte DiVincenzo, they lost over 4,200 regular season minutes that they need to fill. Chris Paul probably won’t even play half of that, so the rest needs to come from young guys stepping into bigger roles, other guys being healthier, or veteran minimum guys, so there’s some uncertainty there.

With an older roster, there is some possible regression that could occur. Any of Curry, Paul, Green, or Klay Thompson taking a significant step back could really hurt them.

Conclusion

With an older roster, questionable depth, and some players with injury concerns, I’m slightly leaning under for this team. I’m just not quite sold on their young talent to make major strides, and while I fundamentally believe in their core players and overall system, they are just too reliant on Curry to carry them to a high number of regular season wins. I’m slightly leaning under, but this is one of my least confident picks.
