NBA Over/Under Regular Season Wins
Brooklyn Nets - 37.5 wins
October 22, 2023
The Case for the Over
After taking on more of a load with the Nets, Mikal Bridges could make another leap and become a full-fledged on-ball star. He started to show more ball-creation skills last season, and was able to keep up his efficiency while doing so, at least during the regular season.
The Nets have a lot of good two-way wings in Bridges, Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Royce O’Neal. Two-way wings are valuable, and they could trade one or two of them to have a roster that makes more sense.
After getting absolutely nothing last year, maybe Ben Simmons can give them some level of play this year, even if it’s not the All-Star type of play we saw in his prime.
They owe their 1st round pick to Houston, so there isn’t any reason to tank.
The Case for the Under
They were not good after the Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant trades last year. If Bridges doesn’t make another major leap, there’s no real leading creator. I’m a huge fan of Bridges, but if you ranked the best player on each team, Bridges would likely be in the mid-to-late 20s.
The roster isn’t that deep. They could be relying a decent amount on guys like Cam Thomas and Day’Ron Sharpe, who are still unproven. Dariq Whitehead and Noah Clowney are unlikely to be ready to contribute to winning, so if they get minutes for developmental reasons, that could hurt the Nets in the win column.
Conclusion
After the Irving trade, the Nets went 14-17 and had the point differential of a 36-win team, which is about where this line is. They have a decent amount of talent, even if some of it is overlapping at the forward positions. The statistical models also really like the Nets. It’s close, but I’m leaning toward a slight over.
