2025 Free Agents - Delon Wright

Wright has shown he can be a decent rotational player for most of his career. He's not someone that you want running a lot of high pick-and-rolls or carrying the offensive load overall, but he can be a solid secondary playmaker. He's not going to be beating defenders off the dribble in isolation or pounding the rock a ton, but he can get in the lane and make plays attacking closeouts when an advantage has already been created. Wright is not a great outside shooter but he is at least been respectable from outside, hitting a decent percetnage from three, albeit on such low volume that he's not really respected as a shooter, and in the playoffs would be someone that could be ignored a bit. He can get to the rim and finishes pretty well when he gets there, although his rim finishing percentages have declined in recent seasons, particularly since Wright hit 30 years old. Defensively, Wright can play either guard position and defend multiple positions due to his size. He rebounds well for his position on both ends of the court, gets a lot of deflections, and has always had a high steal and block rate. Wright will be 33 years old when he hits free agency in 2025, and at this stage of his career he'll likely be looking at modest short-term offers.

Summary

Wright will be an unrestricted free agent with a $2.3 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the Knicks could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $4.4 million. This may be enough to retain Wright, since he settled for the minimum in 2024. Alternatively, the Knicks could use their Mid-Level Exception or Bi-Annual Exception (if available) to re-sign Wright if he demands more than $4.4 million.  Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Wright as even teams without cap space could possibly use the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Wright only gets minimum offers again, and he may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Cap Considerations

Alec Burks (1 year minimum, 2024) Kris Dunn (3-1 years, $16 million, 2024) Patrick Beverley (Overseas, 2024)

Player/Contract Comparison

Potential Teams: Suns, Hornets, Spurs, 76ers, Knicks
