2025 Free Agents - Terence Davis

Davis was one of the biggest surprises in the 2019 rookie class, as the undrafted wing was one of the best rookies in the league. Not many rookies contribute to winning on high-level teams, but Davis certainly did for the Raptors in '19-'20. Davis was pretty efficient, mostly due to his healthy shot profile for a role player. Davis finished well at the rim, hitting 66% of his attempts, and also shot an above-average 36% from three. While he shot extremely poorly from midrange, he hardly took any shots from there. Davis also fit in well with the Raptors defensive scheme, and while he didn't stand out as a strong defender, he wasn't a weak link either, which is more of a compliment than it seems considering that team had very few weak defenders. While Davis contributed during the regular season, he mostly fell out of the rotation in the playoffs, and for the most part it has been all downhill from there aside from a brief bounce-back in '22-'23 with the Kings. While Davis can hit some shots, he's not exactly great at any one particular skill. He can provide a scoring punch, mostly as a spot-up threat but also someone who can be a secondary attacker off the dribble. He's a career 37% shooter from outside, and hit at that rate in '22-'23, his last full season spent on an NBA roster. Defensively, Davis has good block and steal rates, but overall hasn't shown the same level of defense he played in Toronto. A lot of that could be the situation and system around him, as he went from one of the better defensive disciplined teams in the Raptors to an organization that has continually struggled defensively with the Kings.  Having solid wings is always helpful, but most great teams will likely have plenty of better alternatives at that position than Davis. I think he can be decent as a 11th or 12th man, but I'm not sure I would want to trust Davis with a greater role than that, particularly if it meant relying on him in the playoffs. He did have some nice playoff moments for the Kings in 2023, but that didn't even help him in free agency as he was out of the NBA for the '23-'24 season and most of the '24-'25 season.

Summary

Davis will be an unrestricted free agent with a $2.3 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the Kings could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $3.2 million. This should be enough to retain Davis, since he settled for the minimum to come to Sacramento. Alternatively, the Kings could use their Mid-Level Exception or Bi-Annual Exception (if available) to re-sign Davis if he demands more than $3.2 million.  Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Davis as even teams without cap space could possibly use the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Davis only gets minimum offers again, and may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Cap Considerations

Lonnie Walker (1 year minimum, non-guaranteed 2024) Malachi Flynn (1 year minimum, non-guaranteed 2024) Jordan Goodwin (2-1 year minimum, 2025)
