2025 Free Agents - Kyle Lowry
After coming off the bench for essentially the Heat's entire 2023 playoff run, Lowry is now in another phase of his career - one where he is no longer a starting point guard, despite starting most of his games for Miami and Philadelphia in '23-'24. The 8 points per game he averaged in '23-'24 were his lowest since the '08-'09 season, and that got cut in half in '24-'25 to just under 4 points per game. His shooting efficiency numbers also were rough in '24-'25, as he posted a career low 52.5% true shooting. It's clear Lowry just doesn't have the same level of burst and shot-creation ability, and both the overall production/usage and efficiency numbers back that up. Lowry is a competitor. A bulldog that is going to battle every night, make the right plays, and hit some shots. While he has lost some lateral mobility, he still competes on that end and knows where to be on rotations. He's strong enough to guard bigger players, and is willing to put his body on the line to take charges. Lowry will be 39 years old as a free agent in 2025, so it's unlikely he gets any long-term contracts, and could even retire soon.
Summary
Lowry will be an unrestricted free agent with a $2.3 million cap hold and Early Bird Rights. Using his Early Bird Rights, the 76ers could offer him a starting salary of about $14.4 million, which should be more than enough to re-sign him. Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Lowry as even teams without cap space could possibly use the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Lowry only gets minimum offers.
Cap Considerations
