2022 Free Agents - Shake Milton

Summary
Milton isn't much of a playmaker for others, but he does have the quickness and ball-handling ability to create his own shot. He's a career 36% three-point shooter, which is serviceable, and he's especially accurate from the corners.

Milton is also a decent midrange shooter but could serve to substitute some of the attempts for threes or shots at the rim. On defense, Milton is skinny for a wing and is better-served to defend guards rather than forwards.

Milton's minutes declined in the playoffs in 2021, playing under 9 minutes per game as Tyrese Maxey started to surpass him in the rotation. That number picked up slightly to 12.5 minutes per game in the 2022 playoffs, but Milton still isn't being trusted with legitimate minutes when the games matter most.

Even though his minutes have declined a bit and he hasn't been able to establish himself as a consistent part of the rotation, I would be surprised if Milton hits free agency in 2022 since he has such a low option for '22-'23.

Cap Considerations
Milton has a $2 million team option for 2022-2023, and if that is declined he will be an unrestricted free agent with a $1.8 million cap hold and Full Bird rights, meaning the 76ers would have no restrictions on re-signing him.

If he becomes a free agent, other teams will have multiple ways to sign Milton as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or possibly even the Room MLE or Bi-Annual Excepti0n to sign him.

Potential Teams: 76ers, Pacers, Raptors, Mavericks, Grizzlies

Predicted Contract: Opt-In: $2 million

Actual Contract: Opt-In: $2 million

As expected, the 76ers exercised their team option for Milton, and he will hit unrestricted free agency in 2023 unless an extension is agreed to before then.
