2022 Free Agents - Danuel House

Summary
During his time in Houston, House was a prototypical Rocket - as the vast majority of his attempts came from three, and he hardly took any midrange shots. Unfortunately for House, his shooting percentages have declined in recent years, as he shot 42% from three in '18-'19 but was down to just 35% in '20-'21, and was waived by the Rockets during the '21-'22 season.

After bouncing around on some 10-day contracts, House found himself in Utah and played his way into the rotation. He shot 42% from three for the Jazz. His career average of 37% is still slightly above average, but so if he can continue to shoot above that or near 40% going forward, he can really provide value as a wing that can play either forward position.

At 6'7", House has pretty good size for a wing and fits in nicely with a switching system, as the Rockets switched more than just about everyone during the James Harden years. By the end of the season, he was probably the best perimeter defender on the Jazz roster, which isn't saying much, but he did legitimately look like a solid two-way option

House will be 29 when he hits free agency in 2022, so he's older than some my think. Given his recent production and the fact that he seemed to get very little interest after being waived, he wouldn't be looking at any long-term contracts anyway, so teams shouldn't have to worry about any age-related decline. I would be willing to give House a contract above the minimum, but I'm not sure any NBA execs agree with me.

Cap Considerations
House will be an unrestricted free agent with a $1.8 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the Jazz could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $2.7 million. This should be enough to retain House, since he settled for the pro-rated minimum to sign with the Jazz after being waived by the Rockets mid-way through the '21-'22 season. Alternatively, the Jazz could use their Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception to re-sign House if he demands more than $2.7 million.

Other teams will have multiple ways to sign House as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. There's also a chance that House only gets offers for the minimum.

Potential Teams: Jazz, Pelicans, Lakers, Heat, Trailblazers

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $2.3 million ($1.8 million cap hit) with the Jazz
