2022 Free Agents - Solomon Hill

Summary
The Hawks had to rely on Hill more than they expected when they signed him to a one-year minimum contract in 2020. Due to injuries to De'Andre Hunter, Danilo Gallinari, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Kris Dunn, Hill had to play more minutes during the regular season.

Hill fell out of the rotation in the playoffs, as expected, but served his role as a decent rotation player during the regular season. Hill signed another one-year minimum contract with the Hawks in 2021, but after suffering a torn hamstring in December he missed the rest of the '21-'22 season, and was eventually traded to New York, where he was subsequently waived. His injury will certainly make his free agency hopes in 2022 even more dire.

His role on offense was almost exclusively as a spot-up shooter, as over 67% of his attempts came from three in '20-'21, according to Cleaning the Glass. However, he only shot 33% from three, which won't cut it as a legitimate threat from outside. Hill also doesn't have the athleticism to be a good finisher at the rim, and only shot above-average at the rim once in his career (as expected, it was the year before he earned the one big contract he got in 2016).

Cap Considerations
Hill was waived by the Knicks after being included in the Cam Reddish / Kevin Knox trade. Teams will have multiple ways to sign Hill as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or even the Room MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Hill only gets minimum offers, and may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Potential Teams: Heat, Hawks, Magic, Pistons Rockets

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $2.9 million (non-guaranteed) with the Heat
