2022 Free Agents - Malik Fitts

Summary
Fitts went undrafted in the 2020 draft despite having a solid NBA body at 6'7" with good length. Over the course of two seasons, Fitts has not been able to get any real NBA minutes, playing non-garbage time in only one NBA game, according to Cleaning the Glass, and it was for the Jazz this season in a game in Torono which Utah sat its top 8 players.

Fitts has been somewhat productive in the G-League, averaging double figures and hitting 24/65 from three in 18 games played. He shot over 40% from three during his last two seasons in college, so there's a chance he could become a 3-and-D role player, but right now he just doesn't quite make enough plays on either end.

Cap Considerations
Fitts's $1.8 million salary for 2022-2023 is non-guaranteed, and if he is waived he will become an unrestricted free agent and the Celtics will have no form of Bird rights on him. If he is waived, any team could claim him off waivers since his contract fits within the minimum salary exception.

If Fitts becomes a free agent, other teams will have multiple ways to sign him as even teams without cap space could use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Fitts would only have offers for the minimum, and may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Potential Teams: Celtics, Trailblazers, Nets, Lakers, Bulls

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $1.8 million (non-guaranteed) with the Celtics

Fitts's contract was guaranteed in order to facilitate the Malcolm Brogdon, which is fortunate for Fitts as I didn't expect him to get a fully-guaranteed contract for '22-'23.

Actual Contract: Not waived: $1.8 million
