2022 Free Agents - Sam Dekker
Summary
Dekker was a mid-first round pick back in 2015, but struggled to make an impact early in his career and was out of the NBA after his rookie contract was over. After spending the '19-'20 and '20-'21 seasons overseas, Dekker made his way back into the NBA. He made it through training camp to make the Raptors' roster, but was later waived due to luxury tax reasons.
At 6'9" and pretty athletic, Dekker has some solid tools for a wing. However, he just couldn't hit enough shots to really make an impact during his first stint in the league, as he only hit 29% from three. He also just didn't make enough plays for other offensively or provide much value on defense. His rebounding rate was poor for his position.
However, Dekker hit 45% of his threes on 126 attempts while playing in Turkey, and shot well in a limited sample in the 2021 preseason. If his shooting has legitimate improved at a material level, he could re-establish his NBA career.
Cap Considerations
Dekker was waived by the Raptors early in the '21-'22 season. Teams will have multiple ways to sign Dekker as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or even the Room MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Dekker only gets minimum offers.
Potential Teams: Trailblazers, Raptors, Pistons, Bucks, Mavericks
Predicted Contract: 1-year, $2.1 million (non-guaranteed) with the Trailblazers
