2022 Free Agents - Michael Carter-Williams

Summary
After looking like his NBA career was nearly over, Carter-Williams had a bit of a revival in Orlando. He isn't a scoring threat from anywhere on the court (Carter-Williams has consistently been well below-average in percentage at the rim, midrange, and three-point range for essentially his whole career), but he has some playmaking skills and the size to guard multiple positions on defense.

Similar to what Elfrid Payton provided to the Knicks in '20-'21, I think Carter-Williams could maybe provide some spot minutes during the regular season, but I think his lack of scoring ability makes it very difficult for him to get any playoff minutes.

Carter-Williams missed the entire '21-'22 season with injuries, and didn't finish the season on a roster, so his NBA career is likely in jeopardy.

Cap Considerations
Carter-Williams was waived by the Magic during the '21-'22 season in order to create a roster spot at the trade deadline.

Teams will have multiple ways to sign Carter-Williams as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE. or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that  that Carter-Williams only gets minimum offers, and may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.

Potential Teams: Heat, Hawks, Lakers, Mavericks, Nuggets

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $2.6 million (non-guaranteed) with the Heat
