2022 Free Agents - Oshae Brissett

Summary
After signing a couple of 10-day contracts with Indiana in the spring of 2021, Brissett was a pleasant surprise for the Pacers, and ended up signing a multi-year deal to stay in Indiana. He averaged over 10 points per game in '20-'21 on solid efficiency, driven primarily by his 41% shooting from three and solid finishing numbers at the rim. Unfortunately for Brissett, that didn't continue in '21-'22, as he only hit 35% from three and really struggled to finish at the rim. However, if he can split the difference and shoot somewhere around 38% from three, that makes him a reliable threat.

Brissett even showed a little bit of off-the-dribble ability, particularly in transition as he likes to get out and run. At 6'8" with some athleticism, Brissett has potential as a versatile small-ball big. He has played some center in the past, but it looks like Brissett has settled in as a power forward for the vast majority of his minutes.

Brissett has started some games for the Pacers over the last two seasons, but many of those have come when the Pacers were suffering from injuries.  If Brissett can continue to knock down spot-up threes at a reasonable clip and develop on the defensive end, he could be an interesting versatile big in the mold of players like Marcus Morris or P.J. Tucker. He's only 23, so it's reasonable to expect some additional development.

Cap Considerations
Brissett's $1.8 million salary for 2022-2023 is non-guaranteed, and if he is waived he will become an unrestricted free agent and the Pacers will have no form of Bird rights on him. If he is waived, teams could claim him off waivers, but would need to fit his salary within cap space or an exception to do so, as his contract doesn't fit within the minimum salary exception as it was a three-year contract.

If Brissett becomes a free agent, other teams will have multiple ways to sign him as even teams without cap space could use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or possibly even the Room MLE to sign him. It's also possible that Brissett would only receive minimum offers, especially in the scenario where he is waived and clears waivers.

Potential Teams: Pacers, Timberwolves, Celtics, Kings, Bulls

Predicted Contract: Not waived: 1-year, $1.8 million

Actual Contract: Not waived: 1-year, $1.8 million

As projected, Brissett was not waived and is set to hit free agency in 2023.
