Summary
At best, Arcidiacono is your typical third point guard - he won't make many mistakes, he plays hard, but he's not enough of an offensive threat or defensive disruptor to get major minutes on a healthy, competitive team. He's a solid 37% three point shooter, but it comes on low volume and he's not a threat to pull up off-the-dribble.
Despite only finishing his fifth year in the league, Arcidiacono is already 28 years old. so there isn't a lot of upside either. Arcidiacono could be a somewhat reliable third point guard that a team can have as insurance in case they suffer from injuries and want to play someone with experience, but I think that's the only role that makes sense for him at this time.
Cap Considerations
Arcidiacono will be an unrestricted free agent with a $1.8 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. This means that the highest starting salary the Knicks could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $2.5 million. This should be enough to retain Arcidiacono, since he settled for the minimum to come to New York, and had fallen out of the league to start the season. Alternatively, the Knicks could use their Mid-Level Exception to re-sign Arcidiacono if he demands more than $2.5 million.
Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Arcidiacono as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, Room MLE, or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Arcidiacono only gets minimum offers, and may not even get fully-guaranteed offers.
2022 Free Agents - Ryan Arcidiacono
Potential Teams: Wizards, Knicks, Bucks, Cavaliers, Hornets
Predicted Contract: 1-year, $2.1 million (non-guaranteed) with the Wizards
Actual Contract: 1-year, $2.1 million (non-guaranteed) with the Knicks
As expected, Arcidiacono signed a non-guaranteed minimum contract, returning to the Knicks, where he has a legitimate shot at making the final 15-man roster.
