Summary
After getting few minutes in his rookie season, McDaniels got some legitimate playing time in the '20-'21 season, even starting 18 games when the Hornets were short-handed. At 6'10" and long, McDaniels has good size for a wing. He can also defend multiple positions due to his quickness.

He's a below-average outside shooter, but he seems to have some potential as a shooter. Perhaps more importantly, he's not afraid to let it fly from outside and seems to get respected decently enough by defenses, at least in the regular season when teams are not as in-tuned to their opponents weaknesses on a night-to-night basis. If McDaniels can become an above-average outside shooter, even if it's only in spotup situations and not off-the-dribble, McDaniels could develop into a starting-level wing. He already finishes well at the rim and rebounds well for his position.

Cap Considerations
McDaniels's $1.8 million salary for 2021-2022 is non-guaranteed, and if he is waived he will become an unrestricted free agent and the Hornets will have no form of Bird rights on him. If he is waived, teams could claim him off waivers, but would need to fit his salary within cap space or an exception to do so, as his contract doesn't fit within the minimum salary exception as it was a four-year contract.

If McDaniels becomes a free agent, other teams will have multiple ways to sign him as even teams without cap space could possibly use either of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or possibly even the Room MLE to sign him. There's also a chance any offers for McDaniels would just be for the minimum.

Potential Teams: Hornets, Wizards, Thunder, Bulls, Pistons

Predicted Contract: Not waived: 1-year, $1.8 million
If waived: 1-year, $1.7 million with the Wizards

Actual Contract: Not waived: 1-year, $1.8 million
As expected, McDaniels was not waived and his salary for 2021-2022 was guaranteed
