Summary
McCaw is among a number of young role players (Quinn Cook, Alfonzo McKinnie, Jordan Bell) that had some success in Golden State during their dominant run, but pretty much fell off the map after leaving Oakland. Despite winning a championship in Toronto, McCaw was out of the rotation in the playoffs, and he played less than 1,000 minutes over the past two seasons before being waived by the Raptors.
McCaw's super thin frame hurts him at both ends, as bigger wings can easily knock him back and create separation on offense. On defense, McCaw struggles to finish well at the rim due to his lack of strength, and he doesn't draw many free throws. He also hasn't developed his outside shot enough to be a real threat, as he's a career 30% three-point shooter.
McCaw is only 25, so it's possible he can still develop his game and his body in order to compete in today's NBA, but there's a chance that development may come while playing in another league.
Cap Considerations
McCaw was waived by the Raptors this season, and has yet to be signed by an NBA team. Teams will have multiple ways to sign McCaw as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or possibly even the Room MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that McCaw could be signed for the minimum.
Potential Teams: Heat, Warriors, Bucks, Thunder, Spurs
Predicted Contract: 1-year, $1.9 million (non-guaranteed) with the Heat
