Summary
I was surprised when Kornet got an above-minimum contract back in 2019, and I wouldn't expect him to do so again this summer. In fact, I would be surprised if Kornet could even get a fully-guaranteed minimum contract. After shooting 37% from three over the first two seasons of his career, Kornet has only hit 27% from downtown over the last two seasons. As someone whose primary role is as a stretch big, that's a problem.

As a skinny, slow-footed big, his defensive limitations are another problem. Kornet hasn't played a ton of minutes over the last two seasons either, and it seems like he's replacement-level at best. He did have some nice moments after being traded to Boston, but probably didn't do enough to help his market in free agency.

Cap Considerations
Kornet will be an unrestricted free agent with a $2.9 million cap hold and Early Bird rights. The Celtics could offer Kornet a starting salary of up to 5% more than the average salary (likely around $10 million) using the Early Bird exception, which should be more than enough should they wish to bring him back.

Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Kornet as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer MLE, Taxpayer MLE, or possibly even the Room MLE or Bi-Annual Exception to sign him. It's also likely that Kornet ends up settling for the minimum.

Potential Teams: Hawks, Celtics, Pelicans, Kings, Spurs

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $1.8 million (non-guaranteed) with the Pelicans.

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $1.8 million (non-guaranteed) with the Celtics.

Kornet signed a training camp deal with the Celtics, and will fight for one of the final couple roster spots.
