Summary
Bullock is one of those classic 3-and-D wings that isn't great at either of those aspects. However, being solid at both is good enough to stick around in the league, and that's exactly what Bullock has done. This season, Bullock has shown he can be a starter on a solid team, as the Knicks were one of the most surprising teams of the season. Bullock has good size for a wing, and can guard multiple positions. He may not be the one you want guarding the elite wings, but he can hold his own in most matchups.
Bullock will be 30 years old when he hits free agency this summer, so teams might be wary of some slight decline in upcoming seasons.
Cap Considerations
Bullock will be an unrestricted free agent with a $5.5 million cap hold and Early Bird rights. Since his cap hold is likely above his market value, his cap hold really isn't that relevant, as the Knicks will either let him walk in order to maximize their cap space, or they will re-sign Bullock and cut into some of their space. Using his Early Bird rights, the Knicks can offer Bullock a starting salary of 5% above the average salary (around $10 million), which should be more than enough. If it's not, the Knicks could always use cap space to re-sign him.
Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Bullock as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer, Taxpayer, or possibly even the Room Mid-Level Exceptions to sign him.
Potential Teams: Knicks, Jazz, Trailblazers, Wizards, Celtics
Predicted Contract: 2-year, $11 million with the Knicks
Actual Contract: 3-year, $30 million (3rd year half guaranteed) with the Mavericks.
I had a feeling my prediction for Bullock was too low, and that turned out to be the case as he got a 3-year deal for the full MLE.
