Summary

Brown has struggled to get consistent minutes on this deep Bucks team that already has Pat Connaughton, Kyle Korver, and Donte DiVicenzo coming off the bench at the wing position.

Brown has shown flashes of being a solid three-and-D prospect, but at age 25 he needs to show he's more of a player than a prospect. Brown is a respectable 37% shooter from three, but at a low volume. On defense, Brown has the size to match up against most wings, and has good hands to get steals and deflections.

Cap Considerations

Brown will be a restricted free agent with full Bird rights and a $2 million cap hold and Qualifying Offer. However, the Bucks may decide not to offer him the Qualifying Offer, and choosing not to do so would cause Brown to become an unrestricted free agent. Having his full Bird rights means the Bucks can offer him any starting salary (theoretically up to his max). Since the Bucks will be over the salary cap next summer, re-signing Brown has no opportunity cost, as letting him leave in free agency would not free up any cap room.

The only possible hindrance to the Bucks not re-signing Brown would be if his salary gets too far above the minimum, and they want to avoid the luxury tax or lower their luxury tax bill. Therefore, other teams will have a legitimate shot at signing Brown to an offer sheet that the Bucks would not match, if he does indeed become a restricted free agent. Brown's starting salary will likely fit within any of the Non-Taxpayer, Taxpayer, or Room Mid-Level Exceptions. There's also a possibility that he only warrants the minimum this offseason.

Potential Teams: Bucks, Magic, Mavericks, Suns, Jazz

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $1.7 million ($1.6 million cap hit) with the Bucks

Actual Contract: 1-year, $1.7 million ($1.6 million cap hit) with the Rockets

Brown predictably only got a minimum contract, and if he doesn't contribute much for the Rockets, he could find himself out of the league soon.
