Summary

Osman can be a bit of a polarizing player in terms of how he is viewed. On one hand, Osman has never gotten consistent minutes for a competitive team, as his rookie year he only played 10.5 minutes per game in 54 games for the Cavaliers. In the '18-'19 season, with Lebron gone and Osman given a larger role, he did not exactly light the world on fire. Osman shot a solid 35% from three, but struggled to finish consistently at the rim, leading him to having a below-average points per shot attempt.

Osman can shoot off the catch, and do so while on the move, such as coming off pin-downs. His shot-creation needs improvement, as Osman can create some space in isolation, but is not a player that can consistently beat his man off the dribble. If Osman can develop into more of a playmaker in the pick-and-roll, he will be able to be effective without hitting shots at an elite rate.

Cap Considerations

Osman will be a restricted free agent with a $5.5 million cap hold and a $3.6 million Qualifying Offer. Since the Cavs will have Osman's full Bird rights, they can keep his low cap hold on the books, use their cap space to add players, and then re-sign Osman once their cap space is used up. If Osman is brought back by the Cavs on a multi-year contract, they should absolutely frontload his contract as much as possible, given they would not be losing any cap space and would not be near the luxury tax.

For other teams, it would likely take an offer sheet in the $10+ million a year range for Osman to even sign it, let alone have the Cavs not match the offer sheet. Thus, only teams with cap space will be in the running for Osman, unless a team over the cap can find a sign-and-trade possibility that works for all parties involved.
