Summary
There's a chance Iguodala retires and does not sign a new contract next summer. But if he does, teams will still be interested in his services on a short-term contract. While Iguodala cannot play at his highest level often throughout the season, he is still one of the smartest players in the league and has the defensive ability to slow down some of the elite wings in the NBA.
Cap Considerations
Iguodala will be an unrestricted free agent with full Bird rights. As his cap hold ($25.8 million) greatly exceeds the salary he will get in free agency, his cap hold is not really relevant. The Grizzlies will almost certainly go into the summer prepared to renounce Iguodala and remove his cap hold in order to maximize their cap space. If they want to bring Iguodala back, they can certainly do so and still have plenty of cap space available.
However, it is very unlikely that Iguodala agrees to return to Memphis, if he finishes the season there at all. Teams other than the Grizzlies will have multiple ways to sign Iguodala as even teams without cap space could use any of the Non-Taxpayer, Taxpayer, or possibly even the Room Mid-Level Exception to sign him, depending on how much Iguodala prioritizes money versus picking the best destination.
