Summary

Holiday will be 31 next summer, so teams will rightfully question how his game will age on his next contract. While Holiday is long, he doesn't have the strength to defend many of the bigger wings in the league. His role is primarily a scorer off the bench, but he doesn’t have the shot creation skills that would make him an ideal fit for that role.

After shooting slightly below average from three throughout his career, Holiday had his best shooting season thus far with the Pacers, hitting 44% from downtown. If Holiday and his agent can convince teams that he can continue to hit shots at this rate, he could get a lot of interest this offseason.

Cap Considerations

Holiday will be an unrestricted free agent with a $5.7 million cap hold and Non-Bird Rights. Since they will only have his non-Bird Rights, the most they could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is a contract starting at $5.7 million. However, the Pacers could use their Mid-Level Exception to re-sign Holiday as well. The Pacers will likely have the full $9.3 million Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception available, which they could use all or part of to re-sign Holiday.

Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Holiday as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer, Taxpayer, or Room Mid-Level Exceptions to sign him.

Potential Teams: Pacers, Wizards, 76ers, Heat, Mavericks

Predicted Contract: 2-year, $12 million with the Pacers

Actual Contract: 3-year, $18 million with the Pacers

Holiday re-signing for the max amount allowed using Non-Bird rights always seemd like the most likely path, and that's what happened.
