Summary

If Fournier opts for free agency, he would become one of the best wings on the market. However, it's difficult to see a great fit for him outside of Orlando. Among the teams with cap space, most are young rebuilding teams that may not have interest in Fournier.

Fournier is a talented shot-maker and could fit into different roles depending on the supporting cast. Every team would be happy to add Fournier's shooting, but may not be willing to offer him an expensive long-term deal. On defense, Fournier is not a liability, but he could get targeted in the playoffs if he's surrounded by strong defenders.

Cap Considerations

Fournier has a player option for his $17.2 million salary in 2020-2021, and will be an unrestricted free agent with a $25.7 million cap hold and full Bird rights if he opts out. If Fournier opts out, the Magic could have some cap space, but only if Fournier leaves.

If Fournier is re-signed on a multi-year contract, front-loading his contract could be beneficial for the Magic, as it could give them more flexibility in the future (similar to what the Sacramento Kings did with Harrison Barnes last summer).

Fournier will certainly demand a starting salary of more than the full $9.3 million Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, which means only teams with cap space will be able to sign him. If Fournier and an over-the-cap team have mutual interest, sign-and-trade options can be explored. If Fournier opts in or re-signs at a similar number, he would fit into Golden State's Andre Iguodala trade exception, should the Magic and Warriors have interest in making a deal.

Potential Teams: Magic, Hawks, Pistons, Knicks, Hornets

Predicted Contract: Opt In: $17.2 million

If opt out: 3-year, $50 million with the Magic

Actual Contract: Opt In: $17.2 million

Fournier opted in, as expected, and should be able to get some decent offers next summer when more teams have cap room.
