Summary
Burks has shown flashes of solid offensive play, as getting to the rim and finishing as always been his primary skill. Unfortunately, when you look at Burks' finishing numbers, his field goal percentage for shots at the rim has been below average each year of his career, according to Cleaning the Glass. Burks has never been much of an outside shooter, shooting a decent percentage for his career but on a tiny number of attempts.
Burks played well for the Warriors, but the situation was hard to judge considering the talent that the Warriors were putting on the floor this season. However, he played well enough for the 76ers to trade away multiple 2nd round picks for him and Glenn Robinson III. While Burks does have some creation ability that is valuable for a bench wing, he likely needs to hit outside shots more frequently in order to be a sold rotational wing.
Cap Considerations
Burks will be an unrestricted free agent with Non-Bird Rights and a $1.6 million cap hold. This means that the highest starting salary the 76ers could offer him using the Non-Bird Exception is $2.8 million. This could be enough to retain Burks, since he settled for the minimum of $2.5 million last summer. Alternatively, the 76ers could use their $5.7 million Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception to re-sign Burks if he demands more than $2.8 million.
Other teams will have multiple ways to sign Burks as even teams without cap space could possibly use any of the Non-Taxpayer, Taxpayer, or Room Mid-Level Exceptions to sign him. Since he signed a minimum contract last summer, teams will hope to get him at the minimum this summer too.
Potential Teams: Wizards, 76ers, Hawks, Pistons, Magic
Predicted Contract: 1-year, $4 million with the Wizards
Actual Contract: 1-year, $6 million with the Knicks

So much for surrounding RJ Barrett with shooting. I don't quite get this signing for the Knicks, but the value is decent and they could potentially move Burks for a 2nd round pick midseason.
