Summary

Bogdanovic's shot-making ability is his clear NBA skill, as he can score off the catch or off the dribble. He doesn't need much space to get shots off, whether that's from pullup jumpers out of isolations or on-the-catch jumpers. Bogdanovic's finishing at the rim needs improvement, as the 60% he shot from that area puts him only in the 44th percentile for his position, according to Cleaning the Glass.

Bogdanovic will be 28 years old when he hits free agency for the first time this summer, so he will be looking to cash in, as he may not get another opportunity before leaving his prime.

Cap Considerations

Bogdanovic will be a restricted free agent with full Bird rights and a $10.7 million cap hold and Qualifying Offer. Having his full Bird rights means the Kings can offer him any starting salary (theoretically up to his max).

The Kings are likely to remain over the cap if they retain Bogdanovic, so his cap hold is not relevant. If the Kings try to operate under the cap, they could keep Bogdanovic's cap hold on the books, use cap space to sign free agents, then sign Bogdanovic. If Bogdanovic is brought back by Kings on a multi-year contract, they should frontload his contract as much as possible, especially since they could do so without losing any cap space or paying the luxury tax.

As Bogdanovic will demand a starting salary of more than the full $9.3 million Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception, only teams with cap space will be able to sign him to an offer sheet. If Bogdanovic and an over-the-cap team have mutual interest, sign-and-trade options can be explored, if Sacramento is willing to participate. That scenario would only happen if Bogdanovic gets an offer Sacramento is unwilling to match.

Potential Teams: Kings, Pistons, Hornets, Hawks, Thunder

Predicted Contract: 4-year, $80 million (4th year player option) with the Kings

Actual Contract: 4-year, $72 million (4th year player option) with the Hawks.

I was pretty high on Bogdanovic's chances at a big contract, and while he didn't quite reach my expectation, he came close. I was surprised to see the Kings not match this offer, but I'm interested to see how this contract looks two years from now also, because many reasonable people think this is an overpay.
