I was one of the biggest believers in Tyus Jones coming out of the draft in 2015. He makes the right reads, has some pick-and-roll skills, and looked like he would be a knockdown shooter as well.

While I still think Jones can be a quality backup point guard, he hasn't lived up to my expectations, and has had a rough year going into restricted free agency. He shot a very poor 32% from three this season, and didn't finish at the rim as well as he did in '17-'18 either.

With Derrick Rose an upcoming free agent and an already high payroll, the Wolves will likely want to keep Jones if it's at a reasonable price. Minnesota can make Jones a restricted free agent by offering him a $3.6 million Qualifying Offer, otherwise he will be an unrestricted free agent. I expect the Wolves to do so, and I think Jones will end up settling for that offer after struggling to find a sizeable offer in restricted free agency.

Potential Teams: Timberwolves, Suns, Magic, Hornets

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $3.6 million with the Timberwolves.

*Actual Contract: 3-year, $26.5 million with the Grizzlies.

Jones benefitted from the Grizzlies being willing to move on from Wright, and the Timberwolves willing to agree to a sign-and-trade. Otherwise, it may have been difficult for Jones to find a team willing to give him an offer sheet at this level if that team believed Minnesota might match.
