You couldn't help but feel for Thomas when he signed a 1-year minimum contract last summer, knowing that if he had been a free agent just two years earlier instead, he likely could have got a $100+ million offer. Not only did Thomas have to settle for a minimum contract with Denver, he was outplayed by Monte Morris and fell out of the rotation.
Due to injuries, Thomas does not have the explosiveness or body control that allowed him to finish at the rim like he was able to with the Celtics. If he is not able to get that back, he will have to rely more on his jumper, which will worry teams since he has shot below 30% from three over the last two seasons, per Cleaning the Glass.
Potential Teams: Heat, Magic, Suns, Celtics, Hornets
Predicted Contract: 1-year, $2.3 million ($1.6 million cap hit) with the Heat
*Actual Contract: 1-year, $2.3 million ($1.6 million cap hit) with the Wizards.
After falling out of the rotation in Denver behind Monte Morris, it was no surprise Thomas could only get a minimum contract. With John Wall injured, Thomas might be able to produce for the Wizards, but will have to do so efficiently to convince teams he can contribute to winning again.
