Harris continues to add more to his game each year, and is still yet to turn 27 years old. Harris reportedly turned down a four-year, $80 million extension with the Clippers last summer, so he'll be looking for more than that in free agency.
Based on how the playoffs went for Philadelphia, the 76ers will likely prioritize Butler over Harris, despite Harris being younger. GM Elton Brand has claimed that he is willing to re-sign Butler and Harris, despite possibly paying a large amount of luxury tax in future years when Ben Simmons is also getting paid.
If the 76ers only re-sign one of Harris or Butler, they could create around $14 million in cap space, or even get close to max cap space if they also renounce J.J. Redick.
The 76ers gave up a lot for Harris, so I expect them to offer him enough money to stay, which may not be the full five-year, $190 million max, but more than the 4-year $141 million max other teams can offer.
Potential Teams: 76ers, Nets, Jazz, Pacers, Kings
Predicted Contract: 4-year (with player option), $145 million, with 76ers
Predicted Contract: 5-year $180 million ($5 million trade bonus), with 76ers.
Harris getting slightly under the full 5-year max was pretty expected, and the 76ers did well by giving him the max this season, but not giving him full 8% raises going forward. This allows them to take more of the cap hit this year, when they are below the luxury tax and not as concerned about their high payroll.
