After having a breakout performance in last year's playoffs, Rozier is having a disappointing year, and it could greatly affect his free agency.
If the Celtics bring back Kyrie Irving, it's unlikely they will want Rozier back at any number of $10+ million per year.
Restricted free agents tend to either get big overpays (think Allen Crabbe and Tim Hardaway Jr.) or get left out in the cold and settle for a small contract with their former team (Nerlens Noel and Rodney Hood). However, there are times where a restricted free agent gets a mid-level-esque offer sheet (Kyle Anderson), and I could see that happening for Rozier. If Rozier had a higher Qualifying Offer,
Boston would potentially not even tender him one, which would help Rozier by making him an unrestricted free agent, but his QO is only $4.3 million.
Potential Teams: Celtics, Suns, Magic, Bulls
Predicted Contract: 2-year, $22 million, with Celtics
*Actual Contract: 3-year, $56.7 million, with Hornets.
After coming off a down year, I really did not expect Rozier to get this much. Rozier was able to benefit from Kemba leaving and Charlotte having no cap space to sign another point guard, leaving a sign-and-trade for Rozier as their best option, which gave Rozier and his agent leverage to get more money.
