The Lakers surprised many by signing Rondo to a 1-year, $9 million contract last summer. He didn't appear to be a great fit next to Lebron James, and there were other players the Lakers could have signed with that cap space (such as retaining Brook Lopez or Julius Randle).

Rondo is quickly running out of teams that will give him a chance, despite being only one year removed from having a solid playoff appearance for the Pelicans. His agent will certainly point to this series when pitching Rondo's services to teams, but his lack of shooting ability and effort on defense will hurt his appeal in free agency.

Potential Teams: Lakers, Suns, Heat

Predicted Contract: 1-year, $3.5 million with the Lakers

*Actual Contract: 2-year, $5.3 million (2nd year player option) with the Lakers.

I thought Rondo might get more than the minimum, but not much more, and he actually ended up settling for the minimum. Getting a two-year minimum with a player option on the second year makes it more palatable for Rondo.
