Despite missing the entire season, Porzingis will enter this summer as the #1 big man in the 2019 free agent class. Porzingis will be a restricted free agent, and has threatened to take the $4.5 million Qualifying Offer in order to become an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

That would be an unprecedented risk for a player of Porzingis' caliber and injury history. That injury history is the precise reason the Mavs may want to give Kristaps some partial guarantees based on games played, similar to what the 76ers did with Joel Embiid.

It will be interesting to see how much hardball the Mavs play with Porzingis, and if they push him hard enough that he actually takes the Qualifying Offer.

Potential Teams: Mavericks, Pelicans, Kings, Celtics, Nets

Predicted Contract: 5-year, $140 million (partial guarantees based on health) with Mavericks

*Actual Contract: 5-year, $158.3 million (player option) with Mavericks.

Mavs did not try to play hardball or injury-protect the contract, and fully committed to their franchise big man.
