Morris had a surprisingly productive year for the Celtics, and started more games than anyone expected him to before the season. Him outplaying Gordon Hayward for most of the year could force Boston to make a difficult decision this summer.
If the Celtics bring back Kyrie Irving, they will already be over the luxury tax before re-signing Terry Rozier or Marcus Morris. Paying a large luxury tax bill for a team that was one of the most disappointing of the season will not be an attractive option for the Celtics.
In addition, if the Celtics re-sign Morris, they will not be able to trade him until January 15th, further complicating any move for Anthony Davis.
Predicted Contract: 2-year, $30 million (2nd year non-guaranteed) with the Clippers
*Actual Contract: 1-year, $15 million with the Knicks.
Morris got the annual value I expected, but from his initial contract with the Spurs (two-years, $20 million), it doesn't look like he could have gotten this per-year salary on a longer deal.
