McGruder has improved each year, even showing some legitimate pick-and-roll playmaking ability this season with the Heat. In order to avoid the luxury tax, the Heat waived McGruder knowing that he would be claimed, and the Clippers were the ones to pick him up. Because he was waived after March 1st, the Clippers were not allowed to play McGruder in the playoffs.
The Clippers will be hunting for max free agents this summer, but luckily for them, McGruder will only have a $1.9 million cap hold. McGruder will be in a tough position as an almost 28 year-old restricted free agent, so I expect the Clippers to retain him at a reasonable number.
Potential Teams: Clippers, Cavaliers, Grizzlies, 76ers, Rockets
Predicted Contract: 2-year, $7 million (team option 2nd year) with the Clippers
*Actual Contract: 3-year, $15 million (3rd year non-guaranteed) with the Clippers.

McGruder got more than I expected, as I thought the Clippers might play some hardball with their restricted free agent. Instead, the Clippers gave him a substantial contract.
