After struggling to get minutes for Portland during the first two years of his career, Layman had a breakout year for the Trailblazers, starting 33 games. Layman's case in free agency was hurt by falling out of the rotation in the playoffs. Layman will be in a tough position as a restricted free agent, since teams will have to overpay Layman to pry him away from Portland.
However, the Blazers will be paying the luxury tax unless they let Aminu, Seth Curry, Rodney Hood, and Layman walk, so there's a chance a team could get Layman away from Portland at a reasonable price if the Blazers are trying to cut costs. Layman shot below-average from three, above-average from midrange, and elite at the rim this season, according to Cleaning the Glass.
Potential Teams: Trailblazers, Timberwolves, 76ers, Wizards, Pistons
Predicted Contract: 2-year, $6 million with the Trailblazers
*Actual Contract: 3-year, $11.3 million with the Timberwolves.

Despite falling out of the Blazers' rotation in the playoffs, Layman was able to turn a solid year into a contract significantly above the minimum, and will have some security for the next few years.
