Kanter is one of the best rebounders in the league, as he's a nightmare for teams to box out. On the other end, Kanter greatly struggles in pick-and-roll defense, and can get played off of the floor in certain playoff scenarios.

The Trailblazers will be able to offer Kanter a contract starting at $2.8 million using his Non-Bird rights, or a contract starting at $5.7 million using the Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception.

The ideal situation for Kanter is on a competitive team as a backup center, similar to how he was used in Oklahoma City, or in Portland before the Nurkic injury. Kanter showed a lot of heart playing through an injured shoulder while producing in important games as the Trailblazers reached the Western Conference Finals, and likely earned himself some more money in the process.
Potential Teams: Celtics, Pelicans, Kings, Wizards, Mavericks
Predicted Contract: 1-year, $12 million with the Celtics.
*Actual Contract: 2-year, $9.8 million (player option) with the Celtics.

I thought Kanter could get more than this on a short-term deal, but going to a destination where he could start and also getting a player option on the second year makes this contract reasonable for both sides.
