While I did not expect Horford to opt out of his $30.1 million player option for next season, I was not surprised as many had speculated he would do so in order to secure a long-term contract. What did surprise me was that it appears Horford is not interested in signing that long-term contract with the Celtics.

Horford and his agent must be very confident they will get a large contract in free agency. Although Horford is not a superstar, his talents can complement other superstars in a hugely impactful way.

Potential Teams: Mavericks, Clippers, Lakers, Celtics, Knicks

Predicted Contract: 3-year, $75 million with the Mavericks

*Actual Contract: 4-year, $109 million (4th season partially-guaranteed) with the 76ers.

Horford got more than I expected him to get on a long-term deal, but the final season is partially-guaranteed, with the guarantees increasing if the 76ers reach the finals or win a championship.
