Holmes is finally nearing the end of his "Hinkie Special" contract: a 4-year minimum contract with very little guaranteed money that Sam Hinkie become famous for using to take flyers on unknown players such as Holmes, Robert Covington, and T.J. McConnell.

Holmes has limitations on both ends. He is not the most disciplined or heady defender, and has trouble scoring in ways other than dunks. But athletes that are lob threats, can block shots, and play hard like Holmes have a place in the league, and I think the Suns will keep him around as a backup to DeAndre Ayton.

Potential Teams: Suns, Hawks, Grizzlies, Pelicans, Timberwolves

Predicted Contract: 2-year, $7 million with the Suns

*Actual Contract: 2-year, $9.8 million with the Kings.

Holmes got a little more than I expected. While I like Holmes's games, I wasn't sure he had showed enough to get a contract of this level, but clearly the Kings thought differently.
