Finney-Smith has been a nice surprise for the Mavericks, who signed the undrafted Florida Gator back in 2016 with a very team-friendly three-year contract. The Mavericks are also in a good position to retain Finney-Smith, as he will be a restricted free agent with a low $1.9 million cap hold and Qualifying Offer. This means that the Mavericks can use cap space to sign free agents, and then use Bird Rights to re-sign Finney-Smith.
In order to become worthy of rotational minutes on a competitive team, Finney-Smith will have to improve his jump shot, as teams can currently ignore him when he's spotting up. It will be a tough market for Finney-Smith as a restricted free agent, so he may end up taking the the one-year Qualifying Offer.
Potential Teams: Mavericks, Rockets, 76ers, Hawks, Heat
Predicted Contract: 1-year, $1.9 million with the Mavericks
*Actual Contract: 3-year, $12 million with the Mavericks.

I thought Finney-Smith would get squeezed in restricted free agency, but the Mavericks showed faith in him by giving him a decent long-term contract instead of forcing him to find an offer sheet from another team.
