Barnes is another player that surprised me by declining his player option. Slated to make $25.1 million next season, Barnes will almost certainly be sacrificing short-term money in order to secure a long-term contract.

If the Kings re-sign Barnes and do not end up using all the rest of their cap space to bring in more talent, look for them to front-load a contract for Barnes, paying him more next season but having his salary decline each year, thus making his contract more tradeable in future seasons.

Potential Teams: Kings, Clippers, Lakers, Knicks, Magic

Predicted Contract: 3-year, $60 million with the Kings

*Actual Contract: 4-year, $85 million with the Kings.

When Barnes opted out of his $25.1 million salary for next season, it was clear he was going to get a long-term deal somewhere near that salary, and this contract proved that.
